“Promoting Child and Family Resilience and Healing in a Pandemic” ECHO Series

Reserve your spot today!!!  “Promoting Child and Family Resilience and Healing in a Pandemic” ECHO Series
Come learn with and from your pediatric care colleagues! Every day pediatric care clinicians across NH are addressing the mental, emotional, and social impacts of the pandemic on children, teens, and families. The NH Mental Health Care Access in Pediatrics (NH MCAP) Project seeks to support you in these efforts by offering a virtual, lunchtime, case-based learning series starting in February 2022 entitled “Promoting Child and Family Resilience and Healing in a Pandemic.” This ECHO series will support pediatric care clinicians in applying brief, in-office interventions followed by linkages to community and virtual resources to mitigate the harmful mental, emotional, and social impacts of the pandemic. Additionally, the series will assist clinicians in building child and family resilience through the development of “safe, stable, and nurturing relationships” between youth and their primary caregivers.  FREE CME/CNEs as well as complementary provider-to-provider patient consults with psychiatric, pharmacology, and other subject matter experts will be provided. To learn more CLICK HERE and to register CLICK HERE.

This ECHO series is being provided by the NH Mental Health Care Access in Pediatrics Project, a collaborative effort of the NH Dept. of Health and Human Services and the NH Pediatric Improvement Partnership with funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Seeking Regional Coordinators

NHNPA has been very fortunate to have several regional coordinators choose to accept other positions on the Board of Directors. As they are transitioning to their new roles, we are looking for new volunteers to serve as regional coordinators. This is a great opportunity to become more involved with the Association, network with peers and contribute to the NP community.

Regional coordinators participate in efforts to increase membership, bring the local NP voice the statewide Board as well as coordinate regional activities to offer networking opportunities and educational events to support NPs throughout the year. We have some seen some very creative ideas: book/article discussions, potlucks, dinner out, industry-sponsored dinners with presentations from drug reps at local restaurants, virtual meet and greets, webinars and more! Regional coordinators are non-voting members of the Board of Directors and are invited to participate in Board meetings and retreats. Regional coordinators must be members of the Association.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Expands Medicare Payments for At-home COVID-19 Vaccinations

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Expands Medicare Payments for At-home COVID-19 Vaccinations
CMS is expanding opportunities for Medicare beneficiaries to receive COVID-19 vaccinations at home. Health care providers can now receive additional payments for administering vaccines to multiple residents in one home setting or communal setting of a home.

Vaccine providers will receive the increased payment up to five times when fewer than 10 Medicare beneficiaries get the vaccine on the same day in the same home or communal setting. This policy will help ensure at-risk patients in smaller settings have the same opportunities as others to receive the vaccination.

While many Medicare beneficiaries are able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at a retail pharmacy or from a health care provider, some people have great difficulty leaving their homes or cannot easily access vaccination in these settings. These individuals are often at-risk patients who could require complex care if they contract COVID-19 and need to be hospitalized. To better serve this group, Medicare previously increased the total payment amount for at-home vaccination from approximately $40 to approximately $75 per vaccine dose, in certain circumstances.

The additional payment amount also accounts for the clinical time needed to monitor a beneficiary after the vaccine is administered, as well as the upfront costs associated with administering the vaccine safely and appropriately in a beneficiary’s home. The payment rate for administering each dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as the additional in-home payment amount, is geographically adjusted based on where the service is furnished.

VOLUNTEER ON A COMMITEEE

Do you want to get more involved in NHNPA? Perfect, because we want you!

Since the beginning days of NHNPA, very few projects can be completed or advocacy wins achieved without the help of the volunteers who serve on our committees. Not only do committee members assist with ideation, but they help with execution. Their contributions assist NHNPA in working towards our mission, to empower nurse practitioners and champion their practice.  At the same time, committee members also benefit from their volunteer experiences.  Volunteers report that they: gain new skills, make new connections and have fun!

For the first time since March 2020, the State House and Legislative Office Building reopened on Monday June 14th for committee of conference meetings and the June 16th Governor and Council meeting. Remote access was provided for the legislative meetings but not for the Governor and Council meeting; however, no remote access was provided for today’s Legislative Fiscal Committee, so we may be reaching the end of virtual meetings.

New Report - Implementing High-Quality Primary Care: Rebuilding the Foundation of Health Care

Description (provided by The National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine)

High-quality primary care is the foundation of the health care system. It provides continuous, person-centered, relationship-based care that considers the needs and preferences of individuals, families, and communities. Without access to high-quality primary care, minor health problems can spiral into chronic disease, chronic disease management becomes difficult and uncoordinated, visits to emergency departments increase, preventive care lags, and health care spending soars to unsustainable levels.

Unequal access to primary care remains a concern, and the COVID-19 pandemic amplified pervasive economic, mental health, and social health disparities that ubiquitous, high-quality primary care might have reduced. Primary care is the only health care component where an increased supply is associated with better population health and more equitable outcomes. For this reason, primary care is a common good, which makes the strength and quality of the country's primary care services a public concern.
